A NEW LOOK AT M.O.N.E.Y.
Our new month's theme is: "Freedom through Flow."
So, what exactly does that mean? Freedom through Flow? When we have a consistent, regular abundant flow of prosperity in and through our lives, then we have the freedom to share our gifts with the world and to have, be and do that which makes our hearts sing, all of which are God-ordained.
Because here's the deal -- if we are struggling just to make ends meet, trying to figure out how to get the rent paid or get groceries on the table or get the car repair bill paid - and I know many people are facing these issues -- it is pretty darn challenging to have the time, energy and focus to live at that level.
To live at the level of sharing our gifts with the world and having, being and doing that which makes our hearts sing. Am I right? And yet, that is what Life desires to be through and AS us.
Do you know someone, anyone who is in that predicament right now? Well, if you do, tell them to get here for the rest of the month (and to listen to today online), because this will be a profound month for them - and for all of us.
Let me take a survey of those of us who are here. How many wouldn't mind having more freedom to share your gifts with the world and to experience the freedom to have, be and do that which makes your hearts sing. Um? That was pretty much every one of us. So, I guess this is an important month for us! And what a beautiful opening to the month we had last week with our contemplative service. It set the tone in such a sacred and meaningful way.
So to begin today . . . . [pull out a wad of money. Fan it out and kiss it; love on it; dote over it, snuggle with it.]
This is a rhetorical question - you don't have to answer it - but how many of you were sort of repulsed, or least somewhat put off, by what I just did? You had thoughts like it was pretty disgusting and definitely NOT befitting behavior in church, particularly by the minister. Eh??
But what if, rather than this stack of bills here, which will go in the offering, what if my grandson Brandon and his two adorable twins, Tawnos and Hunter had walked out here on the stage, and I did the same thing? What would you have thought then?
It would have been a different story, wouldn't it have been? That would have been ok. It would have been sweet. Some of your hearts would have been so touched, you would have shed a tear or two. Adorable children will always do that to us, won't they?
So why the difference? If we believe it's all God - then this money is as much God as my grandson and his twins are.
That same demonstration was done, many years ago, by Raymond Charles Barker, a Religious Science leader and author of "The Power of Decision" as well as "Money is God in Action" to reveal some hidden beliefs about this thing we call money. This energy we call money. This God in Action in the form of money.
And, let me tell you something you might not want to hear, but I need to be frank here. If you had an adverse reaction to what I did up here - then you are pushing away your financial good and in turn pushing away your freedom! What caused you to respond in an adverse way to what I just did came from a place in you that believes one or some of these ideas:
"Money is dirty - you know, the saying 'he's filthy rich.'"
"Money is the root of all evil."
"You can't be spiritual and wealthy."
"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."
"She must have stepped on a lot of people to get where she is."
We have all sorts of sayings like these, which indicate a negative consciousness around abundance in the form of money. But money really is just energy, and when we give it a negative meaning, we push it away and with it we push away our ability to have the freedom to share our gifts and to have, do and be that which will make our hearts sing!
Today we will take a New Look at Money, one that makes us attractive to an abundant flow of prosperity, which, in turn, will give us the freedom to share our gifts with the world and to have, be and do that which makes our hearts sing, all of which, remember, are God-ordained.
We are going to align ourselves with the frequency of abundance by using a Money Mantra, five affirmative statements using the letters of the word, M.O.N.E.Y. that come from Mary Morrissey's Prosperity Plus 2 class. I was very inspired by it and wanted to share it with everyone.a Here are the categories and each one has an affirmation to go with it:
M - Mindset
O - Opportunity Awareness
N - Network Equals Your Net Worth
E - Energy of Calm Confidence
Y - Yes!
M - Mindset
First, M for Mindset. What is your Mindset about money and is there a need for an adjustment? Your response to my earlier demonstration gave you a start on recognizing your mindset. If there was an adverse reaction, I urge you to make it your mission to shift that. To realize that money in and of itself is totally neutral. "Neither good nor bad, but thinking makes it so,"b to quote William Shakespeare.
And here's a question, do you have the Mindset that there is an ever present flow of it available to you? If not, there is another place for an adjustment.
I love these words of Dr. Joseph Murphy in The Power of Your Subconscious Mind,: "Look at money like the tide and you will always have plenty of it. The ebb and flow of the tide is constant. When the tide is out, you are absolutely sure that it will return."c
When we stand on the beach when the tide is out, do we cry and moan and worry and fret that the water will never come back? That's pretty ridiculous, isn't it? But I know we do that with this energy called money.
Begin to shift that by being absolutely and totally grateful for the money you have now - however much it is! Appreciate it as you spend it. Appreciate what it is doing.
A recent "Note from the Universe" aka Mike Dooley said this: "When you spend money, whether a little or a lot, wisely or not, do you celebrate that you're creating opportunities, dancing with life, exchanging energy, supporting economies, feeding families, lessening poverty consciousness, demonstrating courage, validating life, eradicating fear, inviting magic into your life, and lifting humanity higher into the light? I thought so. Let's pop some tags - The Universe"d
And here's the Money Mantra: "I live in an abundant Universe that delights in expressing Its Limitless Supply through me."
Let's say it together, but first get in the power position: Shoulders back, chin up, arms outstretched or in an upward "v", according to researcher Amy Cuddy:e " I live in an abundant Universe that delights in expressing Its Limitless Supply through me."
O - Opportunity Awareness
In his book Prosperity, Charles Fillmore wrote: "When you have asked for something, be on the alert to receive it when it comes. People complain that their prayers are not answered when, if we knew the truth, they are not awake to receive the answer when it comes. If you ask for money, do not look for an angel from the skies to bring it on a golden platter, but keep your eyes open for some fresh opportunity to make money, an opportunity that will come as sure as you live."f
Money Mantra: "I make welcome, attune to and take action on any and all opportunities that come my way to increase the flow of abundance in my life."
Repeat with shoulders back, chin up, arms outstretched or in an upward "v" in a power position: "I make welcome, attune to and take action on any and all opportunities that come my way to increase the flow of abundance in my life."
NETWORK EQUALS YOUR NET WORTH
N - Your Network Equals your Net Worth
Who do you hang out with? What are the conversations they are having? What books are they reading? What things are they focusing on?

Here's the Money Mantra: "I surround myself with people who delight in the freedom that money represents, who are generous givers as well as grateful receivers, and who continually embrace the flow of abundance in their lives."
Power position and repeat: "I surround myself with people who delight in the freedom that money represents, who are generous givers as well as grateful receivers, and who continually embrace the flow of abundance in their lives."
ENERGY OF CALM CONFIDENCE
E - Energy of Calm Confidence
To me this is a restatement of Mindset. Where are we in our consciousness? Are we nervous and negative about the flow of good in our lives or calm and confident about it? Do we realize that the tide will flow out, but it will also flow back in?!
What is our attitude when an unexpected expense comes up? Dread and handwringing? Oh no, how am I going to get this paid? Not one more bill!
I have a wild idea I want to toss out here. But, first a question. How do you respond when you receive unexpected good? Yipee! Yahoo! Excited, right? Well, what if, just what if, when an unexpected expense comes in, you react the same way? Yipee, Yahoo, I have the opportunity to expand my abundance consciousness! I have an opportunity to take a greater trust walk! I have an opportunity to know that I know that I know that God is my Source!
Ok, I admit that that might be going too far out on the limb. So, if you can't do that, how about this attitude, "I am so excited to see how God is going to work this out!"?
In a Treatment for Peace of Mind, in The Science of Mind, Holmes speaks to this calm confidence when he writes: "There is no uncertainty about my future and no fear as a result of my past. I live in an eternal Now which is filled with good alone. Goodness and beauty follow me. Peace and joy accompany me. Happiness and wholeness fill my entire being with the realization of love and perfection."g
Here is the Money Mantra for the idea of having an Energy of Calm Confidence: "I recognize that money flows to me easily and effortlessly and I move through my day with calm confidence, knowing this is so."
Power position and repeat: "I recognize that money flows to me easily and effortlessly and I move through my day with calm confidence, knowing this is so."
And finally . . .
Y - Yes!
This is about discernment. About saying "yes" to those ideas, conversations and activities that support and serve your expansion and the flow of good in your life. Where are you spending your time?
Do you do something EVERY day to move you toward greater livingness? Your calendar reflects your priorities in life.
Money Mantra: "I say YES only to those things that lead to greater expansion, flow and abundance in my life."
Power position and repeat: "I say YES only to those things that lead to greater expansion, flow and abundance in my life."
Sir Frances Bacon once said: "Money is a good servant, but a bad master."h
We are absolutely NOT talking about making money our God, but rather putting money into service for God's work! When we have a new look at money in the way we have done today, we make it a very good and faithful servant indeed and that servant gives us the freedom to share our gifts with the world and to have, be and do that which makes our hearts sing.
Power position on steroids - stand up! - and repeat after me as the closing prayer:
I live in an abundant Universe that delights in expressing Its Limitless Supply through me.
I make welcome, attune to and take action on any and all opportunities that come my way to increase the flow of abundance in my life.
I surround myself with people who delight in the freedom that money represents who are generous givers as well as grateful receivers, and who continually embrace the flow of abundance in their lives.
I recognize that money flows to me easily and effortlessly, and I move through my day with calm confidence, knowing this is so.
I say YES only to those things that lead to greater expansion, flow and abundance in my life.
And so it is and so we let it be!
