Sunday Message for July 3, 2016

BRINGING ON YOUR CSO

This month with a new theme and focus, we will begin today's time together with a self-assessment. Now this self-assessment is not to instill guilt or bad feelings about ourselves - we really don't do that here! - But rather to take an honest look at where we are. When we know where we are, then we have a better idea of where we can go.

So, free from any guilt, shame or personal pressure, are you ready for the assessment? Good!

Here's the first one:
Is the pathway of your life one of struggle (that would be a 1), or is it clearly an ongoing, regular, consistent experience of God's Plentiful Universe (that would be a 5) or is it somewhere in between? Where are you between 1 and 5? Got it? Good, let's go to . . .

Assessment two:
Is your journey through life unsatisfying (that's a 1), or is it filled with joy and meaning as you live from Spirit's Purpose (that's a 5)? Where are you?

And the final question, assessment three:
Do you feel like you are on a course to nowhere, or are working in harmony with Divine Law to consciously creating every step of the way? 1 - course to nowhere; 5 - consciously creating. Got it? Good!

I suspect most of you aren't 1's, but you might not be 5's either. And you know you deserve to score a resounding 5 on each of those assessments. You know that, right?

Would you like to score 5? Wouldn't it be a glorious experience if the pathway of your life was clearly an ongoing, consistent experience of God's Plentiful Universe? Wouldn't it be a blessing if your journey was filled with joy and meaning as you live from Spirit's Purpose? And you could get used to being on a course of consciously creating every step of the way, couldn't you?

Yes, I thought so. So, wherever you are in the continuum of those questions, there will be gifts for you this month as we explore a number of deeply spiritual, yet highly practical, ideas for consistently and regularly walking:
* a Pathway of God's Plenty,
* a Journey of the Joy of Spirit and
* a Course of Conscious Creation

And our time together this month has been inspired by two books - one quite recent and one pretty old:
* May McCarthy's The Path to Wealth: Seven Spiritual Steps for Financial Abundance published in 2015a and
* Wallace Wattles' The Science of Getting Rich originally published over one hundred years ago in 1910b.

Despite the titles of these books, they are not just about financial abundance and our time this month is not just about financial abundance, although I suspect no one would object to having more of that in their lives. Am I right?

It includes that, but is so, so much more. It is about creating:
* a life we love living;
* a life in harmony with our Divine Nature and on purpose; and
* a life by design and not by default.

C.S.O.

So, let's turn to our work today, and I want to begin that work with a story, which is not actually a true story, but I love it nonetheless and it makes our point for today!

Many years ago, there was a merchant named Taylor, and Taylor had a kiosk. From his kiosk, he sold high quality items, much higher quality that many other's. His prices were slightly higher prices, but people paid it anyway because the quality was so good.

He was very successful at his little kiosk. So successful that he had an internal nudge to open an actual store, thinking that a store would be his next level of expression. His friends thought that was a terrific idea and encouraged him to take that bold step.

So he did, and he carried the same high quality merchandise, but now the prices needed to be higher because of the increased overhead.

Suddenly, he wasn't doing as well as he had done with his little kiosk. The customers were slow to come in the store; and those who did come in weren't buying like they used to at his kiosk.

Taylor got scared, upset and even despondent. He was sure he had made a dreadful mistake by opening this store. He should have stuck to having his little kiosk. Oh, why did he stretch like this??!!

Has anyone here ever felt this way? You felt like you were ready to take the next step, to go to the next level and so you did and then, yipes, things didn't quite work out like you thought? In fact, they seemed to go backwards? Anyone? Ah, yes. It happens, doesn't it!? Why is that? And what can we do? Well, we will explore the "why is that" as this month unfolds. And what can we do? Let's see what Taylor did.

For a while, he wallowed in his fear and thought about backtracking by closing the store and maybe even not having a kiosk any more, but then one day a light bulb went on in his head; he had an idea. The idea was to take on a partner for his business.

He selected a partner who had the perfect ability to complement his skills and talents. Each morning, Taylor and his partner would sit down and make a list of what needed to be done and who would do it. And then they would set out on their day to accomplish their assigned tasks.

At the end of the day, they would review the list together. Soon, business started to pick up and then it picked up more and then even more. In fact, Taylor and his partner became very, very successful -- so successful you may have heard of the store . . . It's called Lord and Taylor.

OK, so that really isn't how that store got started. So, if the story isn't true, why did I tell it to you? Because while the facts of the story are not true, there is huge lesson in Truth in the story!

The lesson in Truth just so happens to be exactly the same lesson in Truth that May McCarthy in Path to Wealth offers us in order to lead a consciously abundant and fulfilling life -- a life of plenty, a life of joy and a life of conscious creation. And what is that? It is to bring on a partner; the same partner Taylor brought on. Only she calls it her "CSO" standing for . . . what do you suppose? Right. Chief Spiritual Officer.

At p. xiii, she writes: "I have been blessed to experience wonderful business opportunities and successes, but I didn't do all the work and planning alone. Others helped me - and, more importantly, the all-knowing power of the universe that I call the CSO helped me. This power guided me to do what I needed to do to receive what I wanted. All I had to do was trust the direction I received and work with the CSO as my partner. . . . As my trust in the universal power matured and I grew in my partnership with the CSO, my success and prosperity increased immensely. The work also became easier. Because I felt increased peace and happiness, the work didn't seem as burdensome and at times it even felt like I was actually doing less."c

Do you have the CSO as your partner in all that you do in your life? Or, are you like a lot of people, like Taylor, who call on Universal support and help only when they are in trouble?

What if, instead, you cultivated that relationship on an ongoing basis -- consciously, consistently and intentionally? What if you recognized and realized your role in the relationship and the CSO's role and you did your part and you let the CSO do His/Hers?

So what might those roles be? Your role has four parts that we will dissect over the course of the month. Today is an overview:

1. Decide what you want
Ernest Holmes writes "consciousness must be conscious of something."d
Proverbs 29:18: "Where there is no vision, the people perish."e

2. Consciously stay in alignment with what you want
"Stand guard the portals of your mind"f as Emerson told us. We will talk more about this role of ours in a moment.

3. Be grateful in advance for it
Sounds like part of a beautiful and powerful Affirmative Prayer, doesn't it?!

4. Follow whatever guidance you get along the way
In Atom Smashing Power of Mind, Fillmore wrote: "To trust Spirit we must know of its guidance by experience. By those who have not learned the guidance of Spirit, that experience must be acquired."g

Again,
1. Decide what you want
2. Consciously stay in alignment with what you want
3. Be grateful in advance for it
4. Follow whatever guidance you get along the way
That's your job.

What is the CSO's job? EVERYTHING ELSE! Creating the path, the opportunities, the resources to bring you the good that you've defined and to provide you with the guidance to get there, one step at a time.

When you do your job and let the CSO do its job (which it will ALWAYS do with mathematical precision and with no need for interference from you!), you will be firmly planted on your:
* Pathway of God's Plenty,
* Journey of the Joy of Spirit and
* Course of Conscious Creation.

So, let's turn for a moment now to some wisdom from our other source book, The Science of Getting Rich. I want to share some thoughts out of it from Chapter 4, which relates particularly to the second part of our role, which is to do what? Consciously stay in alignment with what we desire.

First some groundwork that Wattles lays: "There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates and fills the interspaces of the universe. A thought, in this Substance, produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. We can form things in our thought, and, by impressing our thought on this Formless Substance, can cause the thing we think about to be created."h

Charles Fillmore said it another way in Talks on Truth: "Thinking is formative - every thought clothes itself in a life form according to the character given it by the thinker."i

Listen to these powerful words from Wattles in The Science of Getting Rich: "To think what you want to think is to think TRUTH, regardless of appearances. Everyone has the natural and inherent power to think what we want to think but it requires far more effort to do so than it does to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances. To think according to appearances is easy; to think truth regardless of appearances is laborious and requires the expenditure of more power than any other work we are called upon to perform. There is no labor from which most people shrink as they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought; . . . This is especially true when truth is contrary to appearances. To think health when surrounded by the appearance of disease, or to think riches when in the midst of appearances of poverty, requires power; but he who acquires this power becomes a MASTER MIND. He can conquer fate; he can have what he wants."j

When we make the effort to think truth in the face of conditions that are to the contrary, we unleash the power of our CSO to do its work in our lives. To create the path, the opportunities, the resources to bring us the good that we've defined and to provide us with the guidance to get there, one step at a time.

On the other hand, a fearful mindset does not allow any room for the CSO to work. Fear and doubt create a block in the channel of communication, and we are not able to hear any directions to guide us, and following that guidance is our fourth role, remember?

So, in your partnership with your CSO, you have just four things to do to walk a Pathway of God's Plenty, a Journey of the Joy of Spirit and a Course of Conscious Creation:
1. Decide what you want;
2. Consciously stay in alignment with what you want;
3. Be grateful in advance for it; and
4. Follow whatever guidance you get along the way.

And then let your CSO do the rest. This is your charge for this week. To do these four things and then next week we will come together with a more definite and specific plan for working in harmony with your CSO and I will offer you a specific tool to support you in that.
