Sunday Message for September 25, 2017

CREATION RATHER THAN CONTROL

Each week, this Labor Day month we have taken a look at creating a life that works without all the hard labor. And, I have said that when we:
* live from certain spiritual principles,
* apply certain spiritual practices and
* then leave the rest to the Divine,
. . . . life really can work, even in those moments when it doesn't look like it is!

Over the weeks, we have collectively defined a life that works as one in which:
* We all have the wherewithal to cover all expenses and more
* We all have the presence of mind to turn to God, always.
* we are all waking up grateful with prosperity enough to give back and not worry.
* we all change negative attitudes to positive attitudes.
* we are all feeling fulfilled.
* we are all feeling connected
* we all are the health of God.
* we are all passionate about doing and make a difference in all others lives.
* we are all creative outlets of God.
And we see this "life that works" not only for ourselves, but for all humanity. All humanity, everywhere!!

Again, we can have this life that works without all the work when we, what?
* Live from certain spiritual principles;
* Apply certain spiritual practices, and
* Leave the rest up to Spirit.

Today, we are going to bring this month to a close by:
* Living from a certain Spiritual Principle
* Engaging in a certain Spiritual Practice
. . . both of which lead us to leaving the rest up to God.

The Spiritual Principle is:
* The Universe is a whole lot smarter than you are!

And the Spiritual Practice is . . .
* . . . well, we will get there in a moment.

The Spiritual Principle first. . .

SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLE & PRACTICE

The Universe is a Whole Lot Smarter Than You Are!

Intellectually, I think we get this, don't we? But I love what Holmes says in the SOM: "We comprehend the meaning of Infinite Intelligence only in a small degree, . . ."a

Oh my, that is so true. But, just for this moment, can we expand our view of the meaning of Infinite Intelligence? And I want your help. What does the concept of Infinite Intelligence mean to you? Maxine will you provide a microphone so we can all hear them.

Holmes actually had more to say in the SOM: "We comprehend the meaning of Infinite Intelligence only in a small degree, but because we are spiritual beings, we do sense the presence of an Intelligence which is beyond human comprehension - an Intelligence which is great enough to encompass the past, to understand the present, and to be the Father of the future. It is the Cause of everything that has been, and is that out of which must unfold everything that is to be."b

I loved this from SOM: "In the beginning of any creative series there is Absolute Intelligence alone, pure Spirit, all-inclusive, everywhere, infinite."c

There's a story of a Convention of Scientists, where, after many papers and much discussion, they concluded that we now know all the secrets of life; thus God is not necessary. One of the scientists is commissioned to tell this to God.

The scientist gets an audience with God and tells Her that She's is no longer needed since humans can now create life, etc. all on their own. God smiles and says: "Show Me."

The scientist bends over to pick up a handful of earth when God interrupts: "Oh no, get your OWN earth."

In The Revealing Word, Fillmore, writes: The next great proclamation of scientific minds will be that one directive intelligence is an essential cause of the harmonious universe."d

Spiritually, this is a foundational belief in our teachings. These words of Holmes sum it up beautifully in the SOM: "As we look at the many millions of forms all of different shape and color, . . . are we not compelled to accept the fact that . . . Intelligence is the ultimate creative agency of the Universe!"e

So, let's embody that idea and take it deeper into us this morning with this statement: "Divine Intelligence . . . is the ultimate creative agency . . . of the Universe. . . and it knows more than I do!"

And, there is a second piece to this Spiritual Principle. . . critically important to our equation of creating a life that works without all the hard work:

Even though this Infinite Intelligence knows more than I do, It lives and moves and has Its being as me and it works through ME!

Say with me: "Infinite Intelligence lives in me. . . . works through me . . . and creates as me!"

If that is the Spiritual Principle, then what is the Spiritual Practice?

Of course, it's letting go of control! Letting go of control of what? Again, I want your help. Let go of control of what?

Yes,
The how;
the outcome;
other people,
have to do it myself;
it has to be done a certain way;
ideas of what is and isn't possible

What is the ONE thing that we do have control over? Our own consciousness, which happens to be a combination of 8 things:
* our thoughts and spoken words, . . .
* which impact our feelings . . .
* which then shape our attitudes, beliefs and values, . . .
* which in turn inform our actions and reactions.

How many of you remember the movie - The Robe? Of course, most of you are way too young to remember it. Actually, so am I!

It was a 1953 movie starring Richard Burton and Jean Simmons that tells the story of a Roman military tribune who commanded the unit that crucified Jesus. It was nominated for a bunch of Academy Awards.

There is an interesting story in regard to the making of the robe to be worn by the character of Jesus. The real robes that Jesus wore were seamless, so to preserve authenticity, a professional hand-weaver and her daughter were hired to make this garment on their loom. It was to be an authentic reproduction for those traditionally worn in Judea at the time of Jesus.

The actual weaving took a total of 36 hours, and the weaver and her daughter felt it to be a sacred task. The robe completed, they were about to deliver it to the studio, with just 16 hours left to meet the producers' deadline for receiving it. But, a disaster occurred.

The small son of the weaver's daughter was seen with a pair of scissors in one hand and a fragment of the precious fabric in another. They had not seen him pick up the scissors and take a cut out of the robe. Well, what to do now?

Distraught, they prayed about finding a speedy replacement, and although, there was obviously not nearly enough time left for them to complete a duplicate, they surrendered their preconceived notion of what could and couldn't be done, they let go, and they began immediately to weave another seamless robe.
Incredibly, or not so incredibly, 9 hours later the work was finished, as beautiful as the first.

Well, you might say they had practice, so it took them less time on the second. But not so. Because they were absolutely astonished at the short time it took, they decided to make a third to see how long it would take. And they worked as rapidly as they could to create yet another robe, but this one took 36 hours, just as had the first one!

In those moments, when there was nothing else for them to do, they let go.

What a powerful example of CREATION RATHER THAN CONTROL!

Diane Harmony in 5 Gifts for an Abundant Life, wrote: "When we let go and let God, we are in the midst of a spiritual practice so powerful that the core beliefs that have held us captive and small can be dismantled, resistance to our good can melt away, fear of the unknown can be shattered, a sense of oneness with God and all life can be embodied, and a whole new world of infinite possibilities can open up for us."f

Hows this for a statement: "As I let go and let God, a whole new world of infinite possibilities opens up for me!"

And so we rely on the Spiritual Principle that: * There is an Intelligence in this Universe infinitely greater than ours, but that we are immersed in and one with It, and It is ready to create through us, as us and for us!

Again, let's say: "Infinite Intelligence lives in me. . . . works through me . . . and creates as me."

We then engage in the spiritual practice of:
* letting go to It, knowing that we are safe, loved protected and provided for.

Say after me: "As I let go and let God, . . . a whole new world of infinite possibilities . . . . open up for me!"

. . . .and this whole thing sounds a lot like: * leaving the rest to, in other words trusting, God!

When we do this, we create a life in which:
* We all have the wherewithal to cover all expenses and more
* We all have the presence of mind to turn to God, always.
* we are all waking up grateful with prosperity enough to give back and not worry.
* we all change negative attitudes to positive attitudes.
* we are all feeling fulfilled.
* we are all feeling connected
* we all are the health of God.
* we are all passionate about doing and make a difference in all others lives.
* we are all creative outlets of God.
. . . without all the hard labor. And that sounds pretty good to me!
