Sunday Message for November 5, 2017

THE KEY TO IT ALL

In the month of August (remember August? It was hot!), our theme was "Summer Reading" and each week, we took a different book and explored some of the highest of the highlights of it.

We had a wonderful time with each of the books we explored, but one of them, in particular, peaked a lot of interest so I decided to spend a month on it. So this is the month for it and the book for it is the New Thought classic, Prosperity, written by Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore. We are going to spend time on it because I believe it is one of the richest (pun intended) books on Abundance Consciousness there is!

And what do I mean by Abundance Consciousness? That's a good question to answer before we begin this month's journey, isn't it?

Abundance Consciousness is . . .
* Thinking from,
* Feeling from,
* Believing from,
* Speaking from,
* Acting from and
* Reacting from a place that says . . .
. . . well, that's the place we are going to explore today! That's the place that is the "Key to It All!"

So I've got good news and I've got great news. The good news is "We've Found the Key to the Universe." The great new is "The Universe was never locked!"

But sometimes we are locked. We have often locked ourselves out! And it takes some new awareness to unlock us, to let ourselves back in! And, that's what we will do today. Today, we will let ourselves back into an Abundance Consciousness and then we will work from there!

THE KEY

So envision a key in your hand. Hold your keys up. Let me see them. Nice. What a nice array of keys!

Now take that key and unlock your mind (click, click) and your heart (click, click) as I share this foundational passage from Prosperity: "Even though there seems to be material lack [anyone ever know a time when there seemed to be material lack?], there is plenty of substance for all. We are standing in the very midst of it. Like the fish we might ask, 'Where is the water,' when we live and move and have our being in it. . . . abounding, glorious spiritual substance. "

I think it is very powerful and helpful to look at the etymology of words, and the word "substance" comes from the Latin "substare," which means to "stand under." There is a substance standing under everything. Or, as Ernest Holmes would say, "back of" everything.

In other words, there is a nonmaterial, energetic essence at the core of all. Science now knows that there is more to form than molecules and atoms and even subatomic particles. They now know there is space between those things and the space between is of great interest to them. In this place, in this space, there is a force that holds the particles together. That is the nonmaterial, energetic essence which is the core of it all. That is the substance that stands under everything.

Fillmore is telling us what science is now finding! So let me share that passage again: "Even though there seems to be material lack, there is plenty of substance [nonmaterial, energetic essence] for all. We are standing in the very midst of it. Like the fish we might ask, 'Where is the water,' when we live and move and have our being in it. . . .abounding, glorious spiritual substance."

Check in. Were your mind and heart unlocked to receive this idea? Because it's a game changer! Do you need to turn the key a little more? Do you need to open the doors a little wider?

Fillmore goes on to write: "As you lay hold of substance with your mind [I will add 'and with your heart'], . . . realize your oneness with it. "

So, let's do that right now. Close your eyes if you like. Take a deep breath. Let your body sink into this idea and think to yourself: "I am one with substance." "I am one with substance."

Fillmore continues: "You are unified with the one living substance, which is God, your all sufficiency."

Take another deep breath. Let your heart, mind and body sink into the idea that you are unified with the one living substance, which is God, your all sufficiency. Now say aloud this time: "I am unified with the one living substance, . . . which is God, . . . my all sufficiency."

Fillmore continues: "From this substance you were created; in it you live and move and have your being; by it you are fed and prospered. The spiritual substance is steadfast and immovable, enduring. It does not fluctuate with market reports. It does not decrease in 'hard times' nor increase in 'good times.' ... It is ever the same, constant, abundant, freely circulating and available. The spiritual substance is a living thing, not an inanimate accumulation of bread that does not satisfy hunger nor water that fails to quench thirst. It is living bread and living water, and when we feed on God's substance, we shall never hunger and never thirst. The substance is an abiding thing, not a bank deposit that can be withdrawn nor a fortune that can be lost. It is an unfailing principle that is as sure in its workings as the law of mathematics. We can no more be separated from our supply of substance than life can be separated from its source. As God permeates the universe and life permeates every cell of the body so does substance flow freely through us . . . "

Those are some powerful words! Breathe them in! Let them anchor in your mind and in your heart. When you feel they have been installed there just a bit deeper than before, take another deep breath and open your eyes.

So, let's go back to our definition of Abundance Consciousness. What is it? It is . . .
* Thinking from,
* Feeling from,
* Believing from,
* Speaking from,
* Acting from and
* Reacting from a place that says . . .
. . . from substance, I was created;
. . . in substance, I live and move and have my being;
. . . by substance, I am fed and prospered.
. . . This spiritual substance is steadfast and immovable, enduring, ever the same, constant, abundant, freely circulating and available.

Let's get these ideas instilled even more deeply, so first, open the unlocked doors of your heart and mind a little wider -- got it? -- and then say after me:

* From substance I was created.
* In substance, I live and move and have my being.
* By substance, I am fed and prospered.
* Substance is steadfast and immovable, . . . enduring, ever the same, . . . constant, abundant, . . . freely circulating and always available.

My friends, here is your charge. To the extent that you do not already have this Abundance Consciousness, let November 2017 be the month that fully unlocks your heart and mind to get it!

Eric Butterworth in Spiritual Economics, wrote: "Watch your spiritual priorities. The goal should not be to make money or acquire things, but to achieve the consciousness through which the substance will flow forth when and as you need it. "

And that is what I want for all of us! That we have the consciousness through which the substance flows forth when and as we need, want and desire it!

I want to speak of two tangible ways to support opening us wide into this Abundance Consciousness.

First is to stand in gratitude for substance and for all the ways it is already expressing in your life. When we are grateful, oh so very grateful, for what we already have, we increase the flow! That's just how it works.

That's why we are doing the 40-Days of Abundance Journals, which we provided last month. You are writing in yours every day, right?

The second way is to realize -- more than realize, embody -- what Holmes said in The Science of Mind: "It is right that we should be successful, for otherwise the Spirit is not expressed. The Divine cannot lack for anything and we should not lack for anything that makes life worthwhile here on earth. Everything that we do should be a success and we should be led to do those things which are constructive and worthwhile. "

This speaks to giving yourself permission to dream and to go for those dreams, right!? As you dream and achieve those dreams, you express more of God here on earth!

I've had a dream for this community for a very long time and I realized that I have done a disservice to that dream! I have let my own fears stand in the way of that dream. Do you want to know about the dream? It is that:

We have at least 150 people attending every Sunday.

The energy in this room electric and vibrant. Hosts and greeters at every door. Three people waiting to fill service positions. No one is ever burned out or feels they are overloaded.

More than enough money to do whatever it is we want to do. Reaching out to the community in greater and bigger ways.

Touching more and more and more lives with these amazing teachings. There are people, so many people in our world hurting and aching and not knowing a better way. And we know a better way.

I have not led this community to this because I've been afraid! I've let my fear of opinions of me be stronger that the dream that God has put in my heart.

I have not wanted you to think that I'm unhappy with where we are; because we have done and are doing all the time amazing things - and someone might think that!

I don't want you to think that this dream is all about my ego - and someone might think that.

In order to move in this direction I need to be more direct about how we are going to get there, and I certainly don't want anyone to think I'm demanding, or mean or witchy - and, you know what, somebody might!

But I'm done playing small. I'm done having us play small. Because as Marianne Williamson said: "Playing small does not serve the world."

And I personally want to serve the world in a greater way and I want Unity Castro Valley to do the same. And I invite, I ask, you to come with me on this journey! And it will mean some change in the way we do things.

I ask you to walk with me in being an even bigger, brighter light in this world!

So, the key to it all is having an Abundance Consciousness, which is to:
* Think from,
* Feel from,
* Believe from,
* Speak from,
* Act from and
* React from a place that says . . .
. . . from substance, I was created;
. . . in substance, I live and move and have my being;
. . . by substance, I am fed and prospered.
. . . This spiritual substance is steadfast and immovable, enduring, ever the same, constant, abundant, freely circulating and available.
