POWER ATTITUDES

We continue to explore the idea of using our "Soul-ar" Power . . . which, according to Charles Fillmore's definition of Power in the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary: "The mind and the body of man have power to transform energy from one plane of consciousness to another."a So it is the energy by which everything lives.

Every one of us is tapped into, in fact filled with, the energy by which everything lives. Every one of us has -- is -- at the depths of our souls the power by which everything lives. It is that Divine energy, that Divine power, we are exploring this month.

Wayne Dyer in his book, The Power of Intention, gives a portrait of a person who, in his words, is "connected to the field of intention;" my words, who is "tapped into the Universal energy by which everything lives."b These individuals have six traits in common. This morning we are going to look at these six traits and call them POWER ATTITUDES.

So, the question of the day is -- are you are ready to become one of those people who lives from their SOUL-AR POWER? Yes! Well then hold on to your seats because here we go!

I recommend that you write them down, type them up and paste them around in your house! Extra bonus with each one -- a Power Affirmation to support your POWER ATTITUDE. But to get you started, I have typed them for you and included them in today's program.

1. PEOPLE LIVING FROM THEIR SOUL-AR POWER KNOW THAT THE UNIVERSAL SOURCE (GOD) SUPPLIES EVERYTHING THEY NEED.
1. People Living from Their Soul-ar Power Know that the Universal Source (God) Supplies Everything They Need.

God is our source; our one and only source. Do you really trust that God is your Source?

Meister Eckhart (German mystic in the late 1200's, writes of a union of individual soul with God): "There is nothing else a man can do that is so beautiful as to put complete trust in God. God never failed anyone who trusted Him greatly, but rather by them, He does great things."c

The Scripture tells us: "Before you ask, he will answer."d

Catherine Ponder calls this the prosperity secret of the ages: "God is the Source of your supply. As long as you relate to the Source, you will be prosperous. It is when you turn from God as the source and depend upon people and conditions for your good that you have problems. People and conditions are channels of your supply, to be sure, but never, never forget that God is the Source."e

Jesus had no job; no means of support yet he was always taken care of! And he gave us one of the greatest prosperity teachings when he said, in his beautiful and colorful way appearing in Luke: "Observe the flowers, how they grow; for they do not toil nor do they spin; but I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed like one of these. And if God clothes in such fashion the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow falls into the fireplace; how much more is he to you, oh, you of little faith? So do not be anxious about what you will eat or what you will drink and let not your mind be disturbed by these things. For worldly people seek after all these things; and your Father knows that these things are also necessary for you. But seek the kingdom of God, and all of these things shall be added to you."f

Remember last week we said that the Universe is conspiring for your good? It really is true.

I love these words of Myrtle Fillmore's: "When you develop your soul and express its talents and capabilities in loving service to God and mankind, all your temporal needs will be supplied in bountiful measure."g

WORDS OF POWER TO AFFIRM YOUR POWER ATTITUDE No. 1:

God, the Source of all, supplies my all!

2. THEY KEEP THEIR THOUGHTS ON WHAT THEY INTEND TO CREATE-NOT WHAT THEY DON'T WANT TO CREATE.
2. They Keep Their Thoughts On What They Intend To Create-Not What They Don't Want to Create.

If this sounds familiar, then you remember last week! That's what we talked about! And, if you recall, you had a mission. What was it? Your mission was to have a smorgasbord approach to life this week. If you saw something in your life that you didn't like -- you were supposed to treat it like I would treat the sauerkraut on the buffet table. Thank you, I'll pass.

And the second part of the mission was to focus on -- meaning, give your attention to, speak only about, accept and receive (which was our new definition of ASKING!) -- only that which you desire in your life, thereby setting up the energetic vibration to attract more of that into your life!

Remember?! So, how'd you do?

WORDS OF POWER TO AFFIRM YOUR POWER ATTITUDE No. 2:

I focus on my good, so that my good is focused on me!

3. THEY KNOW EVERYTHING IN THEIR LIFE IS THERE FOR A REASON AND THEY STAY IN A STATE OF GRATITUDE.
3. They Know Everything In Their Life Is There For A Reason And They Stay In A State Of Gratitude.

This Power Attitude is reflected beautifully in the following writing I saw recently:
One day, many years ago, I was sitting in my bathroom with the door closed and the toilet lid down, booing and hooing on the phone so uncontrollably that I was incoherent.

"Stop it! Stop it right now and say thank you!" my friend Maya Angelou chided.

"But you don't understand," I sobbed.

"I do understand," she told me. "I want to hear you say it now . . . out loud."

"Thank you." Tentatively, I repeated it: "Thank you -- but what am I saying thank you for?"

"You're saying thank you," Maya said, "because your faith is so strong that you don't doubt that whatever the problem, you'll get through it. You're saying thank you because you know that even in the eye of the storm, God has put a rainbow in the clouds. You're saying thank you because you know there's no problem created that can compare to the Creator of all things. So -- say thank you!"

So I did -- and I still do.

I keep a gratitude journal and daily list at least five things I'm grateful for. My list includes small pleasures: The feel of Kentucky bluegrass under my feet (like damp silk); walks in the woods with all nine of my dogs and my cocker spaniel Sophie trying to keep up; reading a good book and knowing another waits.

My thank you list also includes things too important to take for granted: An "ok" mammogram, friends who love me, 25 years on the same great job, staying centered, having financial security.

I won't kid you, having money for all the things I want is a blessing. But as I look back over my journals, 99% of what brought me real joy had nothing to do with money. (It did have a lot to do with food, though). [Know who the author is??] It's not easy to be grateful all the time. But it's when you feel least thankful that you are most in need of what gratitude can give you: perspective. When you learn to say thank you, you see the world anew. As Meister Eckhart so eloquently stated:

"If the only prayer you ever say in your whole life is "Thank you, God," that would suffice."h i

-- Oprah Winfrey

WORDS OF POWER TO AFFIRM POWER ATTITUDE NO. 3:

Today I am grateful because there is no problem created that can compare to the Creator of all things.

4. PEOPLE LIVING FROM THEIR SOUL-AR POWER ARE EXCEPTIONALLY GENEROUS AND FIND GREAT PLEASURE IN GIVING.
4. People Living from Their Soul-ar Power Are Exceptionally Generous And Find Great Pleasure In Giving.

You are God in expression and God is the eternal giver - thus it is our nature to be givers and when we don't we simply are not happy and fulfilled -- and we are most certainly not aligned with our POWER!

Arthur Ashe said: "From what we get, we make a living, what we give however, makes a life."j

Kahlil Gibran wrote, in The Prophet: "You say, I would give, but only to the deserving. The trees in your orchard say not so. They give that they shall live, for to withhold is to perish."k

"Give to live" is the highest level of sharing our light. Giving enriches our daily life; it is as natural as our breathing. Giving makes your life holy. Ask yourself, "In what ways might I give to live?"
I love this couplet written by John Bunyant:
"A man there was and they called him mad,
The more he gave, the more he had."l

In Buddhism it is said there are three kinds of givers:
Beggarly givers. They give only after much hesitation, and then just the leftovers, the worst of what they have. The underlying belief is that there is not enough and they must hoard what they have.

Friendly givers. They give what they themselves would use. They share what they have and with less deliberation, with more openhandedness. The underlying belief is that there will be more; it is a friendly universe.

Kingly givers. The highest kind of givers, they offer the very best of what they have. They share spontaneously and in the moment without needing to deliberate. Giving has become natural to their conduct. Their underlying belief is that life is abundant, the universe provides in rich abundance.

Now here's the deal; how the Universe works -- whatever kind of giver we are is the same kind of receiver we are!

Luke 6:38: "Whatever measure you use in giving, large or small, it will be used to measure what is given back to you."m

From which consciousness will you share your gifts?

In the story of Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets -- he tried and tried and couldn't get any interest in his Muppets. He was very discouraged. Then he heard a talk by Norman Vincent Peale that changed his thinking. He had been going about it the wrong way, trying to get people to buy into the Muppets. He realized that he had a gift, a gift to share with others. His new approach was service, giving away his gift. He started doing free puppet shows for schools and children's organizations. At one school presentation someone saw him and asked him if he would do 6-8 weeks on Sesame Street. The rest is history.

WORDS OF POWER TO AFFIRM POWER ATTITUDE NO. 4:

I am a kingly giver!

5. THEY ARE ENTIRELY KIND AND LOVING.
5. They Are Entirely Kind And Loving.

David Hawkins' book, Power v. Force, calibrates attitudes based on a numerical scale. Anything calibrating over 200 is considered to be tapping into POWER/under 200 is tapping into force.

In the book, he has a two-page listing of attitude pairings one of which calibrates over 200, the other of which doesn't. The key words in our POWER ATTITUDE No. 5 -- Kind and Loving -- calibrate over 200. He also talks about how do we reach the state of Pure Awareness -- connecting to our Oneness with God? First, have a desire to reach this state.

And then, have the discipline to act with constant and universal forgiveness and gentleness, without exception. Be compassionate toward everything, including one's own self and thoughts.n

I've recommended several movies over the past months: Akeela and the Bee; The Peaceful Warrior; the animated movie Cars. What strikes me about those movies, and frankly any movie, or scene in a movie, or news report or anecdote is that what touches us deeply, what moves us, what opens our hearts, is when we are kind to one another. When we are understanding, compassionate and loving. Every, every time. That's what gets us! I think there's something to that.

WORDS OF POWER TO AFFIRM POWER ATTITUDE NO. 5:

I choose to approach the world with constant and universal compassion, kindness and love, without exception.

6. THEY NEVER KNOW ENOUGH
6. They Never Know Enough.

People who are connected to their SOUL-AR POWER know that they never know enough. Not in a negative or derogatory way, but in a way that keeps them open to learning, growing, expanding.

I -- we -- must keep growing. Expanding. Enlarging our awareness and knowledge.

Ernest Holmes: "No one has ever plumbed the depths of either the conscious or the subjective life. In both directions we reach out to Infinity, and since we cannot encompass Infinity, we shall always be expanding and always enlarging our capacity to know and to experience."o

WORDS OF POWER TO AFFIRM POWER ATTITUDE NO. 6:

I am open to knowing. I am open to growing.

CONCLUSION -- WORDS OF POWER TO AFFIRM OUR SIX POWER ATTITUDES:

1. God, the Source of all, supplies my all.
2. I focus on my good, so that my good is focused on me!
3. Today I am grateful because there is no problem created that can compare to the Creator of all things.
4. I am a kingly giver!
5. I choose to approach the world with constant and universal compassion, kindness and love, without exception.
6. I am open to knowing. I am open to growing.

My friends, you adopt these six POWER ATTITUDES, and you too will be one of those people -- those people tapped into, living and moving and having their being from their SOULAR POWER! And so it is.
