Sunday Message for January 19, 2020

January is back to basics month - here are the basic four Spiritual Truths at the core of all New Thought teachings:

Truth 1: We are Divine, Spiritual Beings. As I said last week, we believe the Scriptures that say:
We are made in the image and likeness of God;a
God is nearer than our hands and feet; closer than our breath;b
The Father and I are one;c
Or as the Apostle Paul wrote in 1st Corinthians 3:16 & 17:
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? ... For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.d
. . . and we believe that at any moment, any moment!, we can AWAKEN to our own Divinity. That is really why we are here -- To AWAKEN to this Truth.

Truth 2: [Our focus last Sunday] God is ALWAYS present in our lives, because everything is God - God is the creator, the creative process and the creation of all that is. There is nothing that is not God - or said another way, it is ALL GOD . . .
. . . and in the blink of an eye, we can become AWARE of this Presence.

[our focus for today] Truth 3: God's Power of creation is constantly at work through a creative process we call "The Law." This creative process works through us and in us constantly. . .
. . . and with each breath, we can become AVAILABLE to work in harmony with it.

And, finally

Truth 4: God is good all the time - 24/7 - and God's infinite goodness is available to us in abundant form, simply because of who we are. We are heirs to the kingdom of God . . .
. . . and in a heartbeat, we can ALIGN ourselves with this Infinite Good!

Today we will talk about - Becoming available to work in harmony with The Law!

So today, I am NOT going to give you a laundry list of points and thoughts and suggestions and practical tools. I have one idea this morning - but it is my deepest desire, my fondest hope and my sincerest intent that by the time we are finished this morning I will have so impressed upon you the Truth of this idea that you walk out of these doors heeding the words of Isaiah:

"so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and succeed in the thing for which I sent it."e

So don't say anything that you would not want to have returned to you in your life.

Statement of Truth: The Power that brought this Universe and universes beyond ours into being is the same Power that is within each of us.

Fillmore wrote: "God "created" man's world in the ideal but man "makes" his world through the activity of ideas in his consciousness."f

Statement of Truth said another way: The Power that created life when God spoke the WORDS (as recorded in Genesis), "Let the earth bring forth living creatures,"g is the same Power that resides in our WORDS.

As it says in Proverbs 18:21: "There's life and death in the power of the tongue."h

Statement of Truth said yet another way: The Power that flowed through Jesus allowing him to feed the multitudes, walk on water and raise the dead is the same power that flows through each and every one of us.

So, the words you speak would be just as powerful as those spoken by Jesus, if you knew they were. But you have to KNOW this WITHIN yourself, not just accept it with your intellect.

And that's what I mean when I say: With each breath, we can become AVAILABLE to work in harmony with that power.

Become AVAILABLE by KNOWING that your words have the Power of the Almighty in them. Through this KNOWING we become available to use this Power CONSCIOUSLY to heal, uplift, empower, and create a joy-filled, God-centered life.

Here's the paradox about this POWER - it is always working; it is always creating. We can't sometimes have it work through us and other times not. It is simply the way of creation. We are creative beings because we are made in the image and likeness of the Creator.

And the Creative Process, the Law, is a neutral, impartial process. It doesn't say "yes" to creating one thing and "no" to creating another. That's not how it works. It always says yes.

It takes the direct impress of our thoughts and acts upon it. We are always creating our lives - the question is are we CONSCIOUSLY creating the lives we desire to live or UN-CONSCIOUSLY creating lives that are . . . well, frankly, sometimes a bit of a mess?!?

If we really believed in this Spiritual Truth, I wonder if all the things that come out of our mouths or that rattle around in our heads would have such free rein?

I want to throw out a pretty strong statement - are you ready for it? Are you sure? OK, here goes: The only thing that stands between you and your dreams (those God-planted passions, desires, yearnings); the only thing that stands between you and them are the thoughts that you have between now and then!

But wait a minute, you say - we are in a really horrible economy right now; there are roadblocks in front of me everywhere; there are problems left and right, etc. And all of those things may be the "facts" of the situation.

But, we have created our life through our thoughts, which have been limited because we have not known the Truth. We thought that we were controlled by outer things, when all the time we have had that within us which could have changed everything.

In How I Used Truth, H. Emily Cady writes: "It is necessary that we "realize" omnipresence (the presence of God within and without), because in no other way can we bring forth or manifest the good that is ours by divine inheritance. Omnipresence means God as the one and only Presence of absolute good, and this good comprises all of the divine ideas that are our inheritance."i

And that's your take away - that's the idea I want to instill in you today! The key to right thinking and right living is the steady affirmative pattern of thought that only God's Good enters your life.

Try this on for size as a wonderful, simple yet extremely powerful affirmative statement: Only God's good enters my life.

Here's an example of the power in being AVAILABLE to that kind of thinking . . . Eleven-year old Angela was stricken with a debilitating disease involving her nervous system. She was unable to walk and her movement was restricted in other ways as well.

The doctors did not hold out much hope of her ever recovering from this illness. They predicted she'd spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. They said that few, if any, were able to come back to normal after contracting this disease.

The little girl was undaunted. There, lying in her hospital bed, she vowed to anyone who'd listen that she was definitely going to be walking again someday.

She was transferred to a specialized rehabilitation hospital in the San Francisco Bay area. Whatever therapies could be applied to her case were used. The therapists were charmed by her undefeatable spirit. They taught her about imaging -- about seeing herself walking. They thought if it would do nothing else, at least it would give her hope and something positive to do in the long waking hours in her bed.

Angela would work as hard as possible in physical therapy, in whirlpools and in exercise sessions. But she worked just as hard lying in her bed faithfully doing her imaging, visualizing herself moving, moving, moving!

Then, one day, as she was putting every ounce of concentration and energy into imagining her legs moving again, a miracle happened. Her legs didn't move, but the bed did! In fact, it began to move around the room! She screamed out, "Look what I'm doing! Look! Look! I can do it! I can move, I moved!

Now, it seems that at that very moment everything else in the room was moving too, and people were screaming and running for cover. Equipment was falling and glass was breaking.

You see, it was an earthquake. But don't tell that to Angela. She's convinced she did it. And only a few years after that incident, she was back in school. On her own two legs. No crutches, no wheelchair.

Because, anyone who can shake the earth between San Francisco and Oakland can certainly conquer a silly little disease, now can't they?j (Chicken Soup for the Soul)

Do you have a steady affirmative pattern of thought that only God's Good enters your life?

If not, then what are you thinking about? Remember, your thoughts operate through an impersonal, infallible, "always says yes" Law.

Are you giving the Law faulty information on which to operate -- faulty information such as:
Thoughts of lack,
Thoughts of illness,
Thoughts of disharmony and discord;
Thoughts that the world is against you;
Fearful thoughts!

Then that is what you are giving to the Law to bring forth in your life. But you can change the information you feed into the Law at any time - it is your choice and your right!

In The Power Of The Spoken Word Eric Butterworth writes: "Thought is the great power of life, yet we often wonder how we can control it. There is an easy technique: watch your words. Words reflect thought. But, by the law of reversibility, words can influence and change thought. Thus, begin to work with that which you can change. Set a tight seal on your lips. Say only those things that you want to see manifest in your life."k

That is my simple message - You are a creative being and with every breath, you can become AVAILABLE to work in harmony with your creative nature to bring about a life of your dreams.

I want us to conclude this morning by taking our collective creative thought power and putting it toward Australia healing from the damage done by the fires. Think about people getting back into safe homes. Think about the animals healing from this disaster. Think about aid pouring out to Australia from all parts of the world. And just hold these positive thoughts for a few minutes. Just know, within yourself, that all is well.

I want to close by reading an excerpt from a poem entitled The Rock, The River and the Tree by Maya Angelou (written for Clinton's inauguration in 1993):

Give birth again to the dream.
Women, children, men, take it into the palms of your hands.
Mold it into the shape of your most private need.
Sculpt it into the image of your most public self.
Lift up your hearts
Each new hour holds new chances for new beginnings.
Do not be wedded forever to fear, yoked eternally to brutishness.
The horizon leans forward offering you space to place new steps of change.
Here, on the pulse of this fine day you may have the courage
To look up and out upon me, the Rock, the River, The Tree, your country.
Here on the pulse of this new day
You may have the grace to look up and out
And into your sister's eyes, into your brother's face, your country
And say simply
Very simply
With hope
Good morning.l

And I say it is a "good morning" when we only invite God's Good to enter our lives. And so it is!
