Today, I want to look back at the Spiritual Truths we covered in January.
Truth 1: We are Spiritual Beings having this earthly, human experience . . . and at any moment, we can AWAKEN to our Divinity.
Truth 2: God is ALWAYS present in our lives, because everything is God - God is the creator, the creative process and the creation of all that is. It simply is ALL GOD . . . and in the blink of an eye, we can become AWARE of this Presence.
Truth 3: God's Power of creation is constantly at work through a creative process we call "The Law." This creative process works through us and in us as well - all the time . . . and with each breath, we can become AVAILABLE to work in harmony with it.
And Truth 4: God is good all the time - 24/7 - and God's infinite goodness is available to us in abundant form, simply because of who we are. We are heirs to the kingdom of God and in a heartbeat, we can ALIGN ourselves with this Infinite Good!
We've looked at becoming AWAKE to our Divinity, AWARE of God's Presence, AVAILABLE to work in harmony with The Law and ALIGNED with God's Good - so now what!? Now that we've become, we must stay!!
I want two explore two ways this morning to help us stay AWAKE, AWARE, AVAILABLE and ALIGNED.
It's been said that God has dreamed a dream in us, and it is our destiny to live that dream.
So, personally, in looking for a new place to live, I need to be AWAKE to my Divinity. I need to know that I am a Spiritual Being and not get caught up in the human experience I am currently having. Because that is the illusion. In ancient Vedic times, the Rishis referred to illusion as Maya or that which is not.
Also, when I get discouraged about finding a place, I need to be AWARE that it is ALL GOD. There are places to sort through, to compare, to reject or accept but they are neither good nor bad. It is ALL GOD.
And this whole process is intentional and in Divine Order. I just need to be AVAILABLE to work in harmony with it so that God's Power can work through me and in me.
I just need to remind myself that I am an heir to the kingdom of God. And ALIGN myself with the abundance of Infinite Good available to me. Because the perfect place to live is available when I open to it being so.
The first idea this morning to help us all stay AWAKE, AWARE, AVAILABLE and ALIGNED to live that dream that God has dreamed in us, is . . .
1. Do All You Can With What You Have Where You Are
1. Do All You Can With What You Have Where You Are.
This seems like a simple statement, but it is really quite profound, and truly when lived, can have a life-altering impact on your life! Even when it is practiced unconsciously, which I'm going to illustrate in a minute, it is powerful. But when we engage in it consciously, well we add Universal fuel and energy to it.
Do all you can with what you have where you are.
Sometimes we think, feel, and believe that we are stuck. We don't like where we are, and we most certainly don't want to be there. It's safe to say that we are not AWAKE to our own Divinity, that we certainly are not AWARE of God's presence in the situation, we most definitely are NOT AVAILABLE to work in harmony with the Law nor are we ALIGNED with the dream God dreamed in us.
And we think, "let me get out of this and then I'll start showing up fully. Let me get my ducks in a row first and then things will turn around for me."
But just think about this "ducks in a row" statement. Imagine a mother duck and her ducklings. The ducklings are all crowed around her at the side of the road and she is trying desperately to get them lined up behind her so they can cross the street. What do you have? Duck chaos!
She doesn't do that. She doesn't spend one moment trying to get them in a row. What does she do? She simply starts across the street and all of a sudden her little ducklings fall in line behind her!
That's what this statement: "Do all you can with what you have where you are" implies. Begin and then do the best you can! Even if it isn't exactly what you want!
Goethe said: "Whatever YOU can do, or dream you can, now begin it! Boldness has genius, magic, and power in it."a
Vince Lombardi said: "The quality of a man's life is in direct proportion to his commitment to excellence, regardless of his chosen field of endeavor."b
Whatever you are doing, do it fully, bringing your full heart and passion to it and the Universe will respond. It has to. That's the way it works!
I love the story of the reporter interviewing bricklayers and asking them what they were doing. The first said: "Can't you see, you moron, I'm sweating in the hot sun." The second said, "It seems pretty obvious, I'm building a wall. But the third bricklayer said with great pride, "I'm building a cathedral for God!"
Do all you can with what you have where you are!
2. Stick With It!
2. Stick With It! (Stay The Course), Our spiritual unfoldment is gradual, sequential and cumulative, so we simply must stay the course!
I try to be very clear when teaching our principles because it is so easy for some to misunderstand how it works. I don't want to encourage childish magical thinking. We don't click our ruby slippers together to manifest things. Unity is not a get rich quick scheme and it doesn't promise something for nothing.
It does promise for the one who will comply with Unity's teachings that he shall be able to bring greater possibilities and happier conditions into his life.
You've got to comply with the teachings! As an example,
There was a young boy, the son of a minister, who had just gotten his driver's license. He asked his father if they could discuss the use of the car. His father took him to his study and said to him, "I'll make a deal with you. You bring your grades up, study your Bible a little more and get your hair cut, and we'll talk about it."
After about a month, the boy came back and again asked his father if they could discuss use of the car. They again went into the father's study where his father said, "Son, I've been really proud of you. You have brought your grades up, you've studied your Bible diligently, but you didn't get your hair cut!"
The young man waited a moment and replied, "You know Dad, I've been thinking about it. Samson had long hair, Moses had long hair, Noah had long hair, and even Jesus had long hair. . . ." To which his father replied, "Yes, son, they did -- and none of them drove a car either!"
To activate the dreams that God dreamed in us, we must comply with these teachings - Diligently, continually live the four Spiritual Truths we've been talking about!
Sometimes it takes time for the dream to unfold, but it does unfold.
As obvious as it may sound, we advance only by going from where we are to the place where we would like to be. Day by day we realize more of Truth and apply it in our actions. This is the law of unfoldment. And, as the law of unfoldment is operating, we may just need to chill! To have a little patience.
Holmes writes: ". . . take time every day to see our lives as we wish them to be, to make a mental picture of our ideas. He shall pass this picture over to the Law and go about his business, with a calm assurance that on the inner side of life something is taking place. There should not be any sense of hurry or worry about this, just calm, peaceful sense of reality. Let the Law work through, and express Itself in, the experience. There should be no idea of compulsion. We do not have to make the Law work; it is Its nature to work."c
I've been listening to a CD series by Mike Dooley (in The Secret - the "thoughts become things" guy) called "Leveraging the Universe; Engaging the Magic." In it he suggests that it is unconscionable that someone who believes that thoughts become things would not spend 5 - 10 minutes a day envisioning that which they desire to be, do, experience or have.d
We should confidently make known our desires and wait on the Law to manifest through us.
Are you ready, willing and able this year in 2020 to be awake to your Divinity; to be Aware of God's Good, to be Available to Work in Harmony with the law; and to Align with the dream God is dreaming in you by:
- Doing all you can with what you have in this very moment and
- Sticking with it?
Breath into the power of that commitment, into this moment of high resolve and remember these words from: Howard Thurman's The Moments of My High Resolve From For the Inward Journey:
"Keep fresh before me the moments of my high resolve.
Despite the dullness and barrenness of the days that pass, if I search with due diligence, I can always find a deposit left by some former radiance. But I had forgotten. At the time it was full-orbed, glorious and resplendent. I was sure that I would never forget. In the moment of its fullness, I was sure that it would illumine my path for all the rest of my journey. I had forgotten how easy it is to forget.
There was no intent to betray what seemed so sure at the time. My response was whole, clean, authentic. But little by little, there crept into my life the dust and grit of the journey. Details, lower-level demands, all kinds of cross currents - nothing momentous, nothing overwhelming, nothing flagrant - just wear and tear. If there had been some direct challenge - a clear cut issue - I would have fought it to the end, and beyond.
In the quietness of this place, surrounded by the all-pervading Presence of God, my heart whispers: Keep fresh before me the moments of my High Resolve, that in fair weather or foul, in good times or in tempests, in the days when the darkness and the foe are nameless or familiar, I may not forget that to which my life is committed.
Keep fresh before me the moments of my high resolve."e
