Sunday Message for March 15, 2020

Empowering the Devine Pattern

In the Letters of Myrtle Fillmore she says: "It is my great joy to perceive somewhat of the Mother side of God-the divine love that never fails and that is equal to the drawing of souls to itself."a

This month we're focusing on the idea of a soul that knows its own divinity by living from a "Through Me" consciousness, which is the next step after "Why Me" and "By Me".

"Why Me" - the stage where we think life is happening to us. Where we really feel out of control and the victim of circumstances, people, etc.

The next stage is "By Me," which is definitely a step in the right direction. In this stage, we have learned that we really are co-creators with Spirit. The challenge with this stage is that we can begin to think that it is all up to us and that we have to make things happen. While this is an important stage, it's only a step on the path.

The next step being "Through Me." And, specifically, today we will look at moving more and more and more into that state of spiritual awareness by exploring some ideas for knowing our own divinity OR in the language of today's talk title: we will look at some ideas for EMPOWERING THE DIVINE PATTERN. And we'll do that two ways:

First by looking at what it means exactly to Empower the Divine Pattern; Second, by identifying three ways we can do that.

A. WHAT DOES IT MEAN
A. What Does it Mean to Empower the Divine Pattern

To define: Empower. The dictionary has a very short definition of this word: To give official authority or legal power to.

To give authority to, yes; To give power to, most definitely yes! But also . . .to enliven; to quicken; to expand; to call forth; to embody; to make real in our lives!

OR, in the words of Dr. Johnnie Coleman: "TO STAND ON OUR OWN TWO BIG SPIRITUAL FEET."b

Next, to define Divine Pattern:
There are two different trains of thought in the spiritual realm:
...One is that our original nature is sinful (we need external salvation)
...The other is that our original nature is divine. (we need to remember)

We are told in the Scripture that we are made in the image and likeness of God.

John 5:26: "For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself;"c

Wayne Dyer wrote: "You are a Divine creation, a Being of Light who showed up here as a human being at the exact moment you were supposed to. You are the Beloved, a miracle, a part of the eternal perfection."d

In The God Code, Gregg Braden's book of a few years ago, he sets out to prove that we actually have the ancient name of God literally written on our DNA.e The book was absolutely fascinating. I had the honor of hearing him lecture on this concept even before the book came out. I left that 2-day lecture in absolute awe and completely convinced that we have "God" stamped on every strand of DNA!

You can look at DNA as - Divine Natural Attributes.

So what does it mean to Empower the Divine Pattern? It means to give life to our Truth -- our Divine Natural Attributes -- not just in theory; but in our earthly experiences. It means to be the soul that truly knows it's own divinity.

Now that we are on the same page regarding what we mean by the phrase EMPOWERING THE DIVINE PATTERN, the question is how do we do that?

B. HOW
B. How DO we EMPOWER THE DIVINE PATTERN?

Through CONSCIOUS CHOICE in three areas!
Where we choose to place our ATTENTION;
Where we choose to place our WORDS; and
Where we choose to place our ENERGY . . .
. . . either empowers our Divine Pattern -- or not.
Attention * Words * Energy

C. ATTENTION
First, let us use our ATTENTION to empower the Divine Pattern.

We are told in the Scripture: "Choose ye this day whom you will serve."f

A core principle in metaphysics and the teachings of Unity is this: "Where my attention goes, my life flows."

Say that with me, will you? "Where my attention goes, my life flows." Where you place your attention most consistently begins to show up in your world of effects/form.

The Law at work. It is impersonal in nature and works for all alike. It is our conscious choice that is the determiner. Where will you place your attention?

There's a story -- which many of you have heard, I am sure -- of a young Cherokee who goes to his grandfather to ask his advice. It seems that the young man is angry - he is having difficulty in his relationship with some of the young men he associates with. There has been animosity and brawling by some of the group - the young man feels that he has been treated disrespectfully - and is struggling between his desire to retaliate - and his personal code of conduct - which is non-violent.

The old Cherokee tells his grandson about his own challenge going on within himself - He says it's a constant struggle between 2 wolves. One wolf is full of anger, envy, greed, arrogance, self-pity, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, and ego. The other wolf emanates joy, peace, love, serenity, humility, kindness, generosity, truth, and compassion.

The grandson thinks about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "Whichever one I feed."

Will we feed the divine pattern with our attention or will we feed the limited experience with our attention? We are always at choice!

Matthew 6:22: "If our eye is single, we shall be filled with light."g We empower the Divine Pattern by having a singular eye on it -- or by giving it ATTENTION!

D. WORDS
Words - We empower the Divine Pattern by the words that we speak.

In Scripture it says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God and without Him was not any thing made that was made."h We have the power of the Creator of the Universe within our WORD!

Someone once said: I personally think we developed language because of our deep need to complain.

But the Psalmist said: "Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips."i

What is it that your words are empowering? NEVER SAY A THING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE REALIZED IN YOUR LIFE. Suppose that a digital recorder were strapped on your shoulders the first thing tomorrow morning and you carried it with you all day until the last thing tomorrow night and it recorded every word you said and then was repeated to you. What would you hear? Would you hear words that empower your Divine Pattern and the Divine Pattern of all Life -- or would you hear something else?

The Prophet Isaiah wrote: "So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty."j

And Jesus said: "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."k

As Solomon said: "Those who guard their mouths preserve their lives;"l

There is a parable told about a group of frogs were traveling through the woods, hopping contentedly, going about their froggy business, when two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit to see what could be done to help their companions. When they saw how deep the pit was, the rest of the group agreed that it was hopeless and told the two frogs in pit that they should prepare themselves for their fate, because they were as good as dead.

Unwilling to accept this terrible fate, the two frogs began to jump with all of their might. Some of the frogs shouted into the pit that it was hopeless, and that the two frogs would not be in that situation if they had been more careful, more obedient to the froggy rules, and more responsible.

The other frogs continued sorrowfully shouting that they were already as good as dead. The two frogs continued jumping as hard as they could, and after several hours of desperate effort were quite weary.

Finally, one of the frogs took heed to the calls of his fellows. Spent and disheartened, he quietly resolved himself to his fate, lay down at the bottom of the pit and died as the others look on in helpless grief.

Meanwhile the other frog continued to jump as hard as he could although his body was wracked with pain and he was completely exhausted. His companions began again, yelling for him to accept his fate, stop the pain and just die. The weary frog jumped harder and harder and - wonder of wonders! Finally leapt so high that he sprang from the pit.

Amazed, the other frogs celebrated his miraculous freedom and then gathered around him and asked: "Why did you continue jumping when we told you it was impossible?

Reading their lips, the astonished frog explained to them that he was deaf and when he saw their gestures and shouting, he thought they were encouraging him, cheering him on. Because he perceived their shouts as encouragement, he was inspired to try harder and to succeed against all odds.

One listened to the words and allowed them to bury him. The other unable to hear, interpreted the actions according to his belief in good.

There is power of life and death in the tongue -- your own and that of others! Are you using your words to Empower the Divine Pattern?

E. ENERGY
Finally -- Energy -- Let us use our energy to empower the Divine Pattern.

Helen Keller said: "Although the world is full of suffering it is full also of the overcoming of it."m

What if we used our energy for love - which certainly empowers the Divine Pattern.

I want to give you an experience of that.

Please stand; front half of the room turn and face the back half; I am going to ask you to stand in silence for 2 minutes -- seeing only the Divine Pattern in one another. Releasing any judgment about self or others. Coming only from a place of love. No talking; making eye contact with one and then another and then another; deeply breathing. [2 minutes of silence] You may be seated.

What does the energy feel like in this room right now? I do believe we have just used our energy to empower our Divine Patterns!

CONCLUSION

Using our greatest resource, the power to choose where we place . . .

  • our ATTENTION;
  • our WORDS; and
  • our ENERGY . . .

. . . determines whether we empower the Divine Pattern or not.
Our Attention * Our Words * Our Energy which form the acronym AWE --

When we use our ATTENTION, our WORDS and our ENERGY to empower the Divine Pattern, we are AWE-INSPIRED.

When we use our ATTENTION, our WORDS and our ENERGY to empower the Divine Pattern, life is AWE-FILLED.

When we use our ATTENTION, our WORDS and our ENERGY to empower the Divine Pattern, we become the soul that knows its own divinity -- and, in my book, that's pretty AWESOME!
