THE FINAL, ULTIMATE KEY TO LIVING, LOVING AND LAUGHING ABUNDANTLY
Father, Mother, God, help us to understand the balance in the law of giving and receiving. We know you are always with us as we learn to accept that we have the ability to live, love, and laugh abundantly. We now release all old beliefs that no longer serve us, as we accept the divine ideas that dwell within us. AMEN
This month we have embarked on a grand experiment to PROVE that we have the ability to LIVE, LOVE and LAUGH abundantly by being a GIVER to life.
I've shared this quote with you each week and I'm going to do it one more time this morning: This concept is summed up by the words of Ed Rabel: "Another meaning of asking in the name of Jesus Christ would be to align yourself with the givingness part of God's nature. Remember that God is givingness itself or let us say that givingness itself is one of the divine ideas in God-Mind. It is a beautiful idea, givingness."a
Or said in a secular way by motivational speaker and author Anthony Robbins: "Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution, experience life's deepest Joy: true fulfillment."b
Or how about this from Eastern philosopher Tagore: "I dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and life was service. I acted . . . and behold service was joy!"c
We've talked each week about why this is true, and to summarize, I'd say: When you are of service -- or when you are giving -- you are living from the "Through Me/Mystic" or "As Me/Master" stage of consciousness. You are being the clearest vehicle through which or as which God can express. You are living in harmony with your Divine nature - so, of course, you are going to be fulfilled and filled with abundant life, love and joy!
This month, we have explored how to PROVE you can live this abundant life by looking at 5 Laws for Stratospheric Success from this little book entitled The Go-Giverd. We have looked at 4 of the five laws and will get to the final one today. But each week, you have had an assignment - to go out and implement the laws of the week.
Last week you had: The Law of Influence, which says:
"Your abundant life is determined by how abundantly you place other people's interests first."
And The Law of Authenticity, which says:
"The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself."
Last Sunday, I shared how I had implemented the first two laws.
So, did you implement The Law of Influence and how?
How about The Law of Authenticity?
The Fifth Law, according to The Go-Giver, may come as a surprise. It may even seem inconsistent with all we have discussed this month. But, then again, spiritual truths are often tucked carefully inside paradoxes. Here it is.
Fifth Law: The Law of Receptivity:
"The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving."
In fact, every giving can happen ONLY because it is also a receiving.
This is a profound concept that I really want us to get this morning, at a deep, deep level, so let me say it again: "Every giving can happen ONLY because it is also a receiving."
Let me give you a couple of examples. First, I have a $20 bill here. Which side - the "heads" side with Andrew Jackson's picture on it or the "tails" side with the drawing of the White House on it [can you have "heads" and "tails" on a bill?!?] - is the bill?
Well, it's one or the other, isn't it? Of course, not. They are both the bill! You can't have one without the other.
Here's another. In a moment, I am going to count to 30 and while I count, I want you to slowly exhale. That's all. Just exhale and don't stop until I get to 30.
Take a good breath first, so you have plenty of air. Ready? Now exhale. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16. How are you doing? Anybody still exhaling? [If so, keep counting]
Couldn't get to 30 could you? What if I told you it has been medically proven that it's healthier for you only to exhale and not to inhale? Would that have made one bit of difference in the amount of time you could exhale?
Of course not - because exhaling AND inhaling are this thing we call breathing. Just like the heads and the tails side of this bill are the bill itself.
You CANNOT have one without the other!
Giving and receiving are the same way. Every giving can happen ONLY because it is also a receiving.
Those who have been around here for a while have heard me say the dilemma I have with the statement "God and I are One." The accurate statement is "God and I IS One" but that drives the grammarian in us crazy!
We could make the same grammatical faux paux by saying "inhaling and exhaling is breathing." "heads and tails is the bill" and "giving and receiving is the same thing!" We won't, but we could and except for the huge grammatical error, the statements are absolutely accurate!
But, when you were younger, didn't you learn that in the realm of giving and receiving one was better than the other? Which? Giving, of course. It is better to give than to receive was pounded into us and, I suspect the first 4 laws, in fact, supported this statement. So it is imperative, imperative, that we not forget the implication of this 5th law.
Because giving and receiving ARE one, the giving cannot happen without the receiving!
It is not BETTER to give than to receive. In fact it is insane to try to give and NOT receive.
Many people get the giving down, so much that they over give and are unbalanced, because they will not let themselves receive. Then they get burned out, they begin to feel taken advantage of, used even, and they get discouraged and resentful - even angry.
If you are not receiving to the degree you would like .. .
* perhaps you have bought into the false idea that it is better to give than to receive.
* perhaps you have underlying beliefs about your unworthiness - but that shouldn't be because we took care of that a few months ago with our worthiness anointing, remember that?!
* perhaps you believe one cannot be spiritual and abundant at the same time. That's a biggie for some.
* perhaps you believe money is the root of all evil and it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter heaven.
* perhaps you have the limited pie perspective -- you know, you believe there is only so much to go around and if you take a lot, someone will go without.
* perhaps you feel resentful and envious of those whom you perceive have more than you.
Did I strike any cords? The list could go on and on, but the point is that all the giving in the world won't bring you the abundant life, won't create the results you want, unless you also make yourself willing and able to receive in like measure.
Because if you don't let yourself receive, if you refuse the gifts of the Universe, you shut down the flow. The Master Teacher Jesus laid it on the line at Luke 8:18 when he said: ". . . to those who have, more will be given; and from those who do not have, even what they seem to have will be taken away.'."e
That sounds really harsh, yet we know Jesus wasn't harsh. So, what's up with that statement?. Well, Jesus expressed himself spiritually, not materially.
Let's clear this up by adding a couple of words to that statement: "to those who have [a consciousness of receiving], more will be given; and from those who do not have [a consciousness of receiving], even what they seem to have will be taken away."
And here's another important tidbit -- if you aren't willing to receive your share, it will go to someone else who is.
T. Harv Eker in his book The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind tells of an experience he had that brought this idea home in a striking way.
He was camping overnight and before nightfall, he made a lean-to to sleep under by tying the top part of a tarp to a tree and then fastening the bottom to the ground to create a 45-degree roof over his head. Good thing, because it rained all night.
When he awoke the next morning and got out of his shelter, he realized how he and everything under the tarp were dry as a bone, but that there was an unusually deep puddle of water collected at the bottom of the tarp. All of a sudden, he heard an inner voice that said: "Nature is totally abundant but not discriminating. When the rain falls, it has to go somewhere. If one part is dry, another part will be doubly wet."f
And that is exactly how the Universe works. There is an infinite supply of abundance being poured down at any given moment and it has to go somewhere. The deal is this: if somebody isn't willing to receive his or her share, then it will go to whoever is. The rain doesn't care where it goes and neither does the Abundance of the Universe.
So, Eker teaches a little prayer: It goes like this: "Universe, if anyone has something great coming to them and they are NOT willing to receive it, send it to me! I am open and willing to receive all of your blessings. Thank you!"g
In Letters of Myrtle Fillmore she writes, "Jesus Christ has merged His wonderful consciousness with the race consciousness, that we may turn to Him and receive into our own mind the understanding of life and the activities of mind that result in freedom from the limitations of the race beliefs and the intellectual reasonings."h
So how can your consciousness start being a better receiver?
Well, I trust and pray that this morning helped. If you saw your beliefs in any of those I listed a bit ago, begin right now to release them. Somewhere along the line you made a decision to believe that - now I invite you to make a new decision to believe something else.
And start affirming that you are a good receiver right now! Start knowing this for yourself, right now.
Say with me,
* I AM A GENEROUS GIVER AND AN EXCELLENT RECEIVER!
* I AM OPEN TO RECEIVE ALL THE GOOD THE UNIVERSE HAS FOR ME NOW!
So the key to LIVING THE ABUNDANT LIFE is to give, give, give. And we saw how to do that through:
The Law of Value - Your true ability to create an abundant life is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
The Law of Compensation - Your abundance is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
The Law of Influence - Your abundant life is determined by how abundantly you place other people's interests first.
The Law of Authenticity - The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
And the final, ultimate key to giving is making yourself open to receiving, which is the The Law of Receptivity.
Father, Mother, God, we ask that you help us to stay open to receiving so that we may effectively give without strings attached. We know that God is more willing to give than we are to receive. We know that supply is a gift from God because it is part of his plan. We are to accept it in faith as such. Expect it to come and it will. God gives freely. It is for us to keep the receiving channels open, to keep attuned to the realities, so this intellect of ours does not take us out among the limited ideas of the world. All of God's blessings are for every child of the Father and each individual should learn to receive direct from this indwelling source. Each of us must draw upon the source of all things for himself. Blessed are we when we recognize that this is the way of receiving and do it. AMEN
