PRACTICE 2 - PROSPERITY THROUGH PURPOSE
Let us start with a prayer: Mother, Father, God, we pray for the highest and best good for all people. We pray for health for all of those in our world with health challenges. We pray for peace for all in this world who are seeking it. We pray for abundance for all who are experiencing lack of any kind. We pray for our love to go forth and bless all people. Thank you God. AMEN.
We gather each week to remember who we are and how the Laws of the Universe actually work. And for this month, we are remembering that we "ARE the Flow of God's Great Good" and we are exploring how to "BE the flow" -- not to "be IN the flow" -- there is a big difference! Each week focusing on a Spiritual Practice that, when done together and consistently, open us up to being and experiencing God's Great Good.
These six practices, when practiced consistently and simultaneously, put us in remembrance and in harmony with spiritual law, which then moves us into the place of living as the Divine Beings that we are, immersed in all that is Divine!
To briefly review Spiritual Practice 1: We covered tithing last week as the first of our six practices (and the big frog) that breaks the trance of scarcity and moves us in to a true abundance consciousness, which then allows the promises of the Bible to become real in our lives.
At Malachi 3:10 God says to us: "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room to receive it."a
So we know, from last week, that inspired giving is not for God, not for the church, but for our own prosperity consciousness. And that consciousness comes from putting God first as our one and only source. We will always get a return on our giving if we have a prosperity consciousness.
If we want to BE THE FLOW OF GOD'S GREAT GOOD, then we must break the trance of scarcity and have an abundance consciousness.
In order to "be the flow," we must also get on purpose with our lives. We must recognize that we are heirs to the Kingdom. Today, we will align with purpose.
It is my greatest desire for today that you realize that you were not put on this planet to struggle or simply to work hard and pay your taxes, retire and then die. That's not your divine purpose!
Now, there are a lot of people in the world who would like for you to believe that that is what life is all about, but you know in your heart that you are here for much greater things.
We are each here on this planet at this time to discover and demonstrate our own divinity. Two key words in that sentence: DISCOVER and DEMONSTRATE.
Edwene Gaines in her great book The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity says that our mission on this earth is to find out what we need to do to prove -- not to the rest of the world, but to ourselves - that we are Divine.b
Deepak Chopra wrote in Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: "Discover your divinity, find your unique talent, serve humanity with it, and you will begin to experience your life as a miraculous expression of divinity - not just occasionally, but all the time. And you will know true joy and the true meaning of success - the ecstasy and exultation of your own spirit."c
Now that's living AS the flow of God's Great Good!
So, at one level we all have the same purpose: To discover our Divinity.
On the second level, we each have a unique purpose. Each and every one of us has some special gift, some special interest, some special talent, some special way of impacting the world, so that it becomes a better place for everyone. It is part of our purpose to share that with the world!
Florence Scovel Shinn: "There is a place that you are to fill and no one else can fill; there is something you are to do, which no one else can do."d
So the FIRST LEVEL is common to us all.
The SECOND LEVEL is unique to each, and it is to that second level that I want to speak for the rest of the morning.
There are two powerful factors to help us find the second level of our divine purpose:
First, it serves humankind; Albert Schweitzer said: "I don't know what your destiny will be, but this one thing I know: The only ones of you who will be truly happy are those of you who have sought and found how to serve."e
It brings us joy. If what you are doing does not bring you joy -- then you are not on purpose. Doesn't mean you won't ever have a bad day, but in general, it brings you joy!
A couple of things finding this second level of divine purpose is NOT:
First, finding your divine purpose is not necessarily a one-step, light-bulb kind of process that happens when you turn 18 or 21 or some magic young age. I have had several careers in my life. They all served a purpose and led me to this point in life.
It also might not be what you do for a living. It may be something you do in the evenings or on the weekends, completely separate from your paying work. This is just fine. It doesn't matter WHEN you're doing it, just that you do it.
And the Universe has amazing ways to bring purpose and prosperity together! It was quite a leap of faith when I gave up a high paying job in the computer field to start a church. After more than 20+ years I am still not making the salary I was in computers - but because my consciousness has changed, and I am doing what I was meant to do, I feel abundantly wealthy.
Third -- it is also NOT too late to begin! What did you come to Earth to do? Whatever the answer is, it's time to start doing it. Richard Bach, the author of Jonathan Livingston Seagull said, "It's good to be a seeker!"f And it is good to be a seeker. But, sooner or later, you must be a FINDER and share what you have found with your world. We have far too many professional seekers on this planet. We need more finders.
These idea rings true, but they bring up a whole lot of questions. Specifically, What is my purpose? Why exactly am I here? What is it that I truly love? What truly brings me joy, peace and power?
One day a few weeks ago, I was already pondering and praying about how to serve you this morning and what could I impart that would be meaningful, inspirational, concrete and helpful about aligning with purpose!
"Why exactly are you here? What is it that you truly love? What brings you joy, peace and power?"
Richard Leider says that gifts + passions + values = purpose.
So ask yourself what would I do if I never had to earn another dollar? Oh, I know you can imagine having mai-tais on a beach and you'd love it for about 3 days. But soon you'd wander off in search of a mission, a mystery, or anything to break the monotony. So if you didn't have a day job but you still have the income what would you do with all that time? What would you learn, what would you create, where would you go?
Now ask yourself what did I love doing as a child? Did you draw on the walls? Did you drum rhythms on a table? Maybe you couldn't resist the call of the woods, running through fields, climbing trees, hiding in caves. Our inner child knows our calling far better than we, as conditioned adults, seem to. What fills you with the single minded glee of an 8 year old? Do more of that.
Take the time to explore the things you love to do and the things that come easy to you. Ask yourself what qualities do I enjoy expressing the most in the world? Then follow your inner guidance, what is your heart telling you to do?
Chris and Janet Atwood developed what they call a Passion Test. It really is a simple but elegant process. You start by filling in the blank 15 times for the following statement: When my life is ideal I am _____. The word you choose to fill in the blank must be a verb. So when my life is ideal I am what?
Finding and aligning with your purpose in life, is finding the way to Be the Flow of God's Great Good. It is your perfect way to serve humanity and find joy in your life.
Closing Prayer/Affirmations: Father, Mother, God, I mentally accept the possibility of something greater for myself. The present is my point of power. The great Truth is there is a Divine Plan for my life and that Divine Plan is the sublime plan. It includes health, happiness, abundance and perfect self-expression. As I begin to dwell upon the Divine Plan, I attract to myself the ideas, the opportunities, the events and the people that are meant to be part of my life now. I turn the great energy of my thinking on thoughts of plenty. I am now shown new ways of living, new methods of work. I am not confined to the ways and methods of the past. I open my mind to rich ideas and rich results. I accept my good fortune now as my Divine Purpose unfolds. I am the flow of God's Great Good! And so it is, and so it shall ever be. AMEN
