Sunday Message for January 1, 2017

I am the New Year.
I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.
I am your next chance at the art of living.
I am your opportunity to practice what you have learned during the last twelve months of your life.
All that you sought the past year and failed to find is hidden in me;
I am waiting for you to search it out again and, this time, with more determination.
All the good that you tried to do and didn't achieve last year is mine to grant -- providing you have clearer intention and fewer conflicting beliefs.
In me lies the potential of all that you dreamed but didn't dare to do, all that you hoped but did not perform, all that you prayed for and did not yet experience.
These dreams slumber lightly, waiting to be awakened by the touch of an enduring purpose.
Yes, I am the New Year.

Welcome, my friends, to the New Year and all that it promises.

Turn to someone and say: "Welcome to the new year. Amazingly awesome things are in store for you."
Then say: "Amazingly awesome thing are in store for me this year!"

In this first month of the New Year, we are going to anchor ourselves in some fundamental language of our teachings by exploring . . . .
Terms and concepts such as:

Mental Equivalents Consciousness
Spiritual Truth Principle
The Absolute Demonstration
Divine Creative Process The Affirmative Life
False Beliefs The Law
Divine Intelligence Divine Right Order

And more, but that's enough for the moment! This month, I want to make sure we understand and embody this language, which may be new to some of you. And if that weren't enough, we will add a couple of new terms and discover how to bring them alive in our lives! So, are you ready to get started? Good!

Today, we will begin by: "Activating the Divine Creative Process through the Law and Dispelling False Beliefs to Lead an Affirmative Life and Experience Amazing Demonstrations" And, yes, I know that has to be the longest and perhaps dullest, talk title in the history of talk titles, but I wanted to make a point!

These concepts can sound ponderous and boring, but they aren't. They are real and alive and vibrant and exciting, and my desire is that we truly feel these things by the time the month is over! So, what does "Activating the Divine Creative Process through the Law and Dispelling False Beliefs to Lead an Affirmative Life and Experience Amazing Demonstrations" mean?

What does it mean here (touch head) and what does it mean here (touch heart)? Let's go exploring.

1. Activate the Divine Creative Process through the Law. Before we know how to "Activate the Divine Creative Process through the Law," we probably need to be clear on what the Divine Creative Process and the Law are.

Here's a little secret -- they are working in tandem all the time, although you can't see them!

Reminds me of the mother who would always tell her young son to wash the icky germs off his hands before dinner. And then when the little boy came to the table for dinner, the mother would always say, "Now, let's thank Jesus for our food."

One particular night, the son looks upset and says, "Mom, all you ever talk about is Jesus and germs, Jesus and germs, and I've never seem either one of them."

Well, you can't see the Divine Creative Process or the Law either, but you can be assured they are at work.

We are activating this process all the time. It is always -- and in all ways --in play. The Law, which is simply the way, the process by which God brings the unformed idea into form, is always working to bring about that which we are thinking, believing and feeling.

There was a little girl in Youth Church who learned about the Law one Sunday morning and was telling her mother about it. Her mother wanted to engage her daughter about it and so she said, "Tell me, why does the Law work?" The little girl put her hands on her hips said to her mother with quite a bit of attitude, "It works, mother, because it's the LAW!"

It just works! Always and in all ways. Therefore, we cannot not create. Say that with me making it a personal statement: "I cannot not create."

Again, "I cannot not create."

The question is: What are we creating? Are we consciously using the Divine Creative Process to create our good and the good of others -- or are we unconsciously using it to create the exact opposite of what we want?

Charles Fillmore writes in Talks on Truth: "Man is the builder, and to him are given all the materials out of which to construct the temple in which he dwells. He builds in wisdom or in ignorance, according to his obedience - his receptivity to the sphere of intelligence within him."a

So this is where we move from head to heart. It's one thing to know this concept in our head, but it is entirely different to know it in our heart. And if we know it in our heart, we are applying it in our lives on a daily basis. Remember what the "New Year" poem said: "All the good that you tried to do and didn't achieve last year is mine to grant -- providing you have clearer intention and fewer conflicting beliefs."

2. Dispel False Beliefs. Which takes us to another part of our title this morning: Dispelling False Beliefs.

What are you believing that just isn't true about you? About life? About how the Universe works? The Scripture reminds us at Proverbs 23:7 that: "As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is."b

Charles Fillmore reminds us that: "There is an invisible thought-stuff on which the mind acts, making things through the operation of a law not yet fully understood by man. Every thought moves upon this invisible substance in increasing or diminishing degree. When we praise the richness and fullness of God, this thought-stuff is tremendously increased in our mental atmosphere. It reflects into everything that our mind and our hands touch."c

The key there is in the third sentence. "When we praise the richness and fullness of God," meaning when we connect with the Infinite life, the Life that is filled with peace. The Life that is the ultimate of intelligence, that is All-Power and All-Love AND that resides in US, when we connect with that, then we use the Divine Creative Process, which is ALWAYS and in ALL WAYS at work, to bring forth that which is for the highest and best.

So, this year, at the onset of this New Year, are you ready and willing to dispel any beliefs that are contrary to what I just read? That's a very powerful passage isn't it? It pretty much sums things up for us, and if . . . no, let me say when . . . , we open our receptivity to receive its Truth (which is done by dispelling false beliefs), we will experience our spiritual power in ways we have never experience before.

So my question for you this morning, so this doesn't become overwhelming, is this: Can you identify one false belief that if you dispelled it today, you would live more from what this passage is saying? And would you be willing to dispel it today?

3. Affirmative Life and Experience Amazing Demonstrations.

How much of the Affirmation Life are we ready to live in 2017? The Affirmative Life, meaning the life where we choose to "judge not according to appearances but to judge righteous judgment"d to use the words of Jesus. To not see things how they are, but how they could be.

I love this idea that I recently heard from a spiritual leader. That one affirmative thought, a thought based on Spiritual Truth, is 100 times more powerful than a false belief.

Charles Fillmore in Christian Healing, wrote: "It is found that, by the use of these mind forces, man can dissolve things by denying their existence, and that he can build them up by affirming their presence. This is a simple statement, but when it is applied in all the intricate thought forms of the universe it becomes complex. The law of mental denial and affirmation will prove its truth to all those who persistently make use of it."e

So my question to you this month, this year, is "How many amazing demonstrations are you willing to experience?" A demonstration is just our Unity word for the result obtained by conscious use of the Divine Creative Process.

So there you have the definitions of some Unity Language. Let's put them all into action with this Affirmation for a New Year by Science of Mind founder, Dr. Ernest Holmes:

"I am living in the continual expectancy that every good thing in my experience shall be multiplied. There is neither doubt nor uncertainty in my mind. I know the Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life. I have complete confidence in this Spirit and its action in my experience.

"I affirm that today - every day - is filled with blessing for myself and others. The past is gone, and I gladly loose it and let it go. The present is filled with peace and joy and the future with hope. Gratefully I accept Divine Love and Givingness and extend them to everyone I meet. I am made whole with the Wholeness of Spirit.

"I am guided into right action and successful accomplishment of all my good desires. This I accept. This I experience. And so it is!"f
